Artist Statement

I am a Pacific Northwest oil painter and ceramic artist.  Through my work, I seek to elevate ordinary moments by creating beauty for spaces and human togetherness; To honor the spirit of a place through my paintings and incorporate functional art into the rhythms of the day through slow made, small batch ceramic wares.

Showing up to the easel regularly has allowed me to behold the often overlooked intricacies of a passing moment in time.

There is an energy of life that vibrates through even the stillest corners of the natural landscape; The ebb and flow of open air, the flutter of a wing, the migration of first light across a structure, the opening of a flower, the breath of a cow lounging in the field. When I witness a dramatic play of natural light on form, it stirs my heart. Picturing the scene in paint, the draw to bring it to the easel is sometimes irresistible. Intentionally keeping my brushwork bold, playful and loose, with the utmost intention of conveying the energy and movement of the experience above the rendering of a scene, I paint to honor this living, breathing moment. Perhaps the impression could live on in paint to elevate an ordinary space where life unfolds daily…
